Frank Haag

F rank Haag directs his sonic focus toward the contemporary realm of unearthly electronic music. His work is driven by a desire to push beyond stylistic boundaries, blending raw instinct with influences drawn from diverse cultures and musical traditions, all in pursuit of the defamiliarizing power of electronic sound. His roots trace back to the late ’90s, playing raw house and techno on a pair of worn-out belt-drive turntables bought with his savings. During his studies in Sonology at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague, Frank deepened his experimental approach and developed a fascination for analog studio techniques and immersive multi-channel compositions.

Early releases on Thema, Tic Tac Toe, and Serialism followed, alongside Live PA performances at internationally respected venues and festivals such as AwakeningsFestival and Watergate. Over time, his sound continued to evolve, gradually shedding genre conventions and predictable patterns. Drawing from the analog heritage of Detroit and Berlin, he distilled these influences into a stripped-back and personal language, focusing on atmosphere, tension, and subtle evolution rather than overt stylistic references. As a member ofAmsterdam’s VBX family, he refined this direction further.

His Image Exposed EP (VBX008) received strong support from artists including Craig Richards and Raresh. Frank’s sets are defined by their subtle intensity, psychological layering, and elastic sense of time. Combining musicality with deep technical knowledge, he builds immersive narratives that are equally compelling in the studio and on stage.
